Is your business financially freewheeling?
We provide the cogs your business needs to maintain control.
Running a business is a lot like riding a bicycle. You need to keep moving to maintain your balance. But if you want to grow and succeed, you need a solid financial strategy when it matters.
Freewheeling may get you places, but only on the downhills or with a bit of built-up momentum. But what happens when you reach a rocky stretch? Do you have a robust enough financial plan to tackle the hill climbs?
We understand that your primary focus is likely on day-to-day operations, understanding your customers’ needs, and delivering high-quality products and services.
Counting sheep instead of profit?
We help you create a robust financial plan so you can sleep well at night.
A solid financial plan is essential for any business owner. It guides your day-to-day decision-making, and by comparing forecasts with actual results, you’ll gain valuable insights into your business's overall financial health and efficiency. Even a solo-run company should have a financial plan in place.
Your financial plan will help you to:
Plan your budget
Does your business experience seasonal revenue fluctuations? A financial plan helps you manage cash flow between periods of plenty and when cash is less abundant.
Manage your cash
Keeping a tight control on expenditure when revenue’s low will help you sleep better at night. Additionally, a cash cushion will ensure you can capitalise on opportunities as they arise.
Plan for the long-term
A financial plan focused on the future helps you anticipate growth-related expenses and the actions needed to stay ahead of competitors. It also ensures that business owners monitor their goals and wealth-creation strategies.
Spot trends
A well-considered financial plan will help you see what works and what doesn’t. Did a marketing campaign pay off in increased sales? Did you achieve the return on investment you expected? How’s a new product or service performing during your off-season?
Conserve cash
Do you know which expenses to prioritise? Which will bring the most significant increase in revenue or productivity? Conserving resources and allocating capital effectively require a solid financial plan.
Measure progress
Getting caught up in day-to-day operational activities can keep you from noticing gradual growth. But by measuring forecasts against actuals and your increasing bank balance, you’ll see your success (or warning signs) at a glance.

Cobus Kritzinger
Cobus Kritzinger CA (SA) RA
I’ve always been involved in sports of some kind. At school, it was rugby and athletics, and although I never reached top-level awards, I always performed well.
Later, I started running, including the Comrades, Two Oceans, and many others that took me all around South Africa. The relationships and memories of this time are like trophies safely stored in a cupboard, but the life lessons I gained are the principles I live by.
I ran until an old ankle injury resurfaced and, to maintain the balance I enjoy between sport, family and my career, I needed to find a new sport. I saw mountain biking.
Now, 20-odd years later and with several successful races under my belt –Cape Epic, Wines-2-Whales, Sani-2-Sea, Trans-Baviaans and the Karoo-2-Coast to name a few – mountain biking provides me with memories, an opportunity to do some analytical thinking, and time to test my bicycle, myself and my environment. I’ve learned countless life lessons on my bike.
These lessons include pushing boundaries to a place I didn’t think I’d get to, acknowledging my current circumstances and how I deal with them, and efficiencies and productivity, such as how to reduce drag and capitalise on the momentum. Interestingly, these are qualities every business owner should also consider.
Running your own business has much in common with mountain biking – how to approach an uphill, the dangers of downhills, the importance of a buddy for the tough times, and coping with your ‘bike’ (staff, equipment, and capital) to maximise performance.
It’s also about recognising when circumstances change and shifting gear accordingly.
As a chartered accountant for more than 30 years and having served on the national directorship of two audit firms (PKF 1994 – 2012 and Mazars 2013 – 2016), I’ve realised that many problems are the same for all businesses.
The number of zeros in your turnover may differ, but the principles remain the same.
Because no two businesses are alike, it helps to have an external view – someone to help you identify problem areas in your business, provide a safe sounding board for finding solutions, and strategise new options and benchmark better performance.
Stop! Get your systems in place so that you can stop running.
